City Council <br />Meeting Minutes February 2, 2021 <br />Stark provided options on how the City is keeping the citizens informed with <br />expanding mask & the COVID Safety Campaign through press release, news <br />ads, social messages & graphics, signs for the community in English & <br />Spanish, continued staff communications from City Leadership and contact <br />with Community Partners including Hays County, <br />Chamber of Commerce, the School District and Texas State University to help <br />spread the message. <br />Council Member Baker is concerned with the strategies and feels they have not <br />been successful due to large spikes by the message not being enforced. He is <br />concerned about staff wearing what he feels is the proper type of mask. <br />Mr. Lumbreras stated we have a choice to do nothing or do the campaign we <br />are doing and try to make it as effective as possible to try to affect their <br />choices. He stated the city is trying to do its best during these unprecedented <br />times of a pandemic. <br />Council Member Scott noted that all are doing their best and that we need <br />handle this and get on with city business as usual. <br />Council Member Gonzales suggested to have a video of those who have had or <br />been affected by COVID to speak and have it in English and Spanish. Ms. <br />Stark stated that is a good idea and will begin to work on it. <br />Mayor Hughson suggested an emphasis on wearing the masks because it <br />SAVES lives. <br />Council Member Garza thanked staff for the work that has been done. She <br />reiterated that public health officials have stated COVID has an increased <br />infection rate in specific communities. Council Member Garza stated to have <br />equality based strategies like the video Council Member Gonzales suggested. <br />She has printed examples that can used and will do further research for <br />different verbal populations to ensure multi -language information is sent out. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />A motion was made by Council Member Gleason, seconded by Council <br />Member Gonzales, to approve the consent agenda.
