AIRPORT MASTER PLAN <br />. is to advise the City Council, City <br />Manager, and airport management on the following matters: <br /> Methods and matters in recruiting and creating interest in the airport. <br /> Planning and developing airport services and expansion. <br />A IRPORT H ISTORY <br />The San Marcos Regional Airport was originally developed as a military airfield <br />(called Gary Air Force Base) in the 1940s to support military flight training <br />operations. The airport continued to be used as a military airfield until the 1960s. In <br />1966, the airfield was deeded to the City of San Marcos and civil aircraft operations <br />at the airport commenced. When the airport was originally developed, it had four <br />runways. Three of the original runways remain. Runway 4/22 was decommissioned <br />in 2001 and converted into a taxiway Taxiway Juliet. The original runways were <br />150 feet in total width. All three of the current runways have since been narrowed <br />to 100 feet in width. <br />A IRPORT B USINESS D EVELOPMENT P LAN <br />An Airport Business Development Plan (ABDP) was completed for the San Marcos <br />Regional Airport in 2013 through a federal grant administered by TxDOT Aviation. <br />The study was led by TAP in collaboration with the City of San Marcos and other <br />partners. The focus of the ABDP was to provide a strategic direction for <br />infrastructure and policy development at the Airport. The ABDP included a high- <br />level inventory of airport facilities, an analysis of the A <br />compared to other airports, and a detailed list of near term goals and development <br />objectives. As part of the plan, the following vision statement was developed for the <br />Airport: <br /> <br />The vision and goals established as part of the ABDP will be a key consideration <br />throughout the master planning process. <br />Inventory Chapter Page 2of 52 <br />October 2020 <br /> <br />
