AIRPORT MASTER PLAN

All areas reviewed in this analysis have experienced steady growth over the seven-
year period, with Hays and Caldwell counties combined experiencing the highest
Average Annual Growth Rate (AAGR) of 3.89% annually. It should also be noted that
the population growth rates for the Austin-Round Rock MSA (2.92% annually) and
the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA (2.12% annually) have significantly exceeded
the population growth rates for the State of Texas (1.67% annually) and the United
States (0.75% annually) as a whole during the same period of time.
This analysis indicates that the region where the San Marcos Regional Airport is
located has grown at a rapid pace with the area immediately surrounding the
airport (e.g. Hays and Caldwell County) growing faster than the region as a whole. In
fact, Hays County has consistently been named one of the fastest growing counties
in the United States during this time period.
While historic population trends can provide an indication of future activity, it is
also important to analyze population projections for the future. Table 3-2 shows
future population projections for Hays and Caldwell counties (combined), the San
Antonio-New Braunfels MSA, the Austin-Round Rock MSA, the State of Texas, and
the United States between 2018 and 2050.

TABLE 3-2
FUTURE POPULATION PROJECTIONS
Austin-Round San Antonio-New Hays and
Year United States Texas Rock MSA Braunfels MSA Caldwell County
2018 327,892,000 28,716,213 2,133,977 2,527,653
259,469
2019 330,269,000 29,193,378 2,189,870 2,579,823
269,133
2024 341,963,000 31,685,217 2,480,246 2,852,257
321,335
2029 353,008,000 34,345,084 2,799,579 3,138,069
383,839
2034 363,003,000 37,142,136 3,153,488 3,430,042
458,682
2039 371,871,000 40,078,100 3,542,493 3,730,816
546,534
2044 379,861,000 43,209,927 3,969,412 4,047,608
650,853
2049 387,419,000 46,619,895 4,441,555 4,387,838
776,838
2050 388,922,000 47,342,417 4,542,827 4,459,030
805,195
AAGR 0.58% 2.03% 3.53% 2.39% 6.57%
Source:Source: TDC Population Estimates and Projections, US Census Population Estimates
Based on future population projections provided by the Texas Demographic Center
(TDC), it is expected that the population of the region where the San Marcos

Activity Forecasts Chapter Page 4of 36
October 2020
