Ronnie Dannelley stated the City would know by the end of October if we are eligible for a grant. Authorization needs to be given by the Council to proceed with this application. Jim Gandy of the Chamber of Commerce state d the Chamber supports the City proceed to get the grant. He felt with the assistance of Rudy Ruiz of Community Action in Lockhart we could obtain the grant, as Mr. Ruiz has helped cities obtain these grants. The City of San Marcos will not be eligible for an urban development action grant after Novem- ber 30, 1982. The federal government will provide $1.00 for every $3.00 of money provided by the private sector. Decisions needed to be reached in the near future are site location and matter of financing. Industrial revenue bonds can be used to finance this type project. Any money generated from a convention center in this type project, HUD would expect such monies to be put back into the community, such as downtown renovation. Mr. Ruiz indicated the City would probably have approval or disapproval of the grant by the first of the year. Mayor Craddock introduced for consideration the appointment of a lay representative to the Central Texas Library System. Mrs. Mendez moved for the appointment of Martha Jane Mauldin and Mayor Craddock seconded the motion, which passed unanimously (Gerald Farr was not present during this vote).
