City Council Meeting Minutes July 6, 2021 <br />strongly urges Council to vote "NO" and defeat this biased attempt to favor <br />some groups, while targeting our San Marcos Police and Fire Departments. <br />Susan Dawson, Co-chair of Addressing Cancer Togetherm, spoke regarding <br />item #35 for American Rescue Allocations specifically for uninsured cancer <br />care. She provided statistics of life span for uninsured cancer patients in <br />Central Texas. She stated the screening rates during COVID dropped by 90%. <br />She mentioned the money allocated will pay for outreach, screening, diagnosis <br />and treatment, insurance premiums and for administrative support in San <br />Marcos area. Lydia Perez from Community Action, spoke in favor of item #35. <br />The program has been effective and successful in Bastrop and would like to see <br />this project in San Marcos. <br />Steven Griffith, spoke against item #7 regarding the lobbying ordinance. He <br />expressed concern with registering as a lobbyist because of political <br />contributions to candidates he supports. He mentioned if this attempts to <br />monitor Fire and Police departments from participating in the political <br />process; this ordinance is too broad. He stated Council is restricting the ability <br />to participate in governance. <br />Diana Riley, spoke against the ordinance being considered in Agenda Item #7 <br />regarding so-called lobbyists being required to register with the City, and <br />strongly urges Council to vote "NO" and defeat this biased attempt to favor <br />some groups, while targeting our San Marcos Police and Fire Departments. <br />Shaunie LeBouef, expressed concern with item #7 regarding the lobbying <br />ordinance. She would like the Council to vote no. <br />Gale Fraiser, spoke against item #7 and feels more laws do not equate to better <br />government. <br />Sean Daniel Johnson, supports item #7. The ordinance has a purpose with <br />registration and reporting. This ordinance is standard compared to other cities <br />and he would like Council to approve ordinance. <br />Shannon Fitzpatrick, expressed concern with council member Scott's behavior <br />at a Hays County Commissioner's Meeting on June 1st. She sat next to him <br />and shared her encounter with him. <br />Olivia Juarez -Reid, expressed concern with the item #7 regarding the lobbying <br />ordinance. She would like Council to vote no since this is an attempt to favor <br />City of San Marcos Page 3 <br />
