Call To Order <br />With a quorum present, the Regular Meeting of the San Marcos City Council <br />was called to order by Mayor Hughson at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021. <br />The meeting was held in-person and online. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Present: 7- Mayor Pro Tem Melissa Derrick, Mayor Jane Hughson, Council Member Maxfield <br />Baker, Council Member Saul Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Shane Scott, <br />Council Member Alyssa Garza and Council Member Mark Gleason <br />111. Invocation <br />Not held this evening due to technical difficulties. <br />IV. Pledges of Allegiance - United States and Texas <br />Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scott led the assembly in the Pledges of Allegiance. <br />V. 30 Minute Citizen Comment Period <br />Denise Smart, spoke in favor of the allocation to Addressing Cancer Together. <br />She stated Susan Dawson is seeking an innovated approach to addressing <br />breast cancer identification and care for the uninsured. She stated her <br />enthusiasm for three reasons, first it will save lives by providing screenings and <br />care for uninsured cancer patients. She provided statistics for Hays County <br />stating 533 people will be screened annually and 14 undetected cases of cancer <br />will be identified. Second, it will save money by providing early detection so <br />treatment cost will be less and it will be spread out through providers. Third, it <br />is a regional model for hospitals, federal health care centers and cancer care <br />providers participating in developing and launching. She expressed her <br />appreciation to council for their support of Addressing Cancer Together. <br />Catarina Vasquez, representative of the Youth Task Force, thanked Council <br />City of San Marcos Page 1 <br />
