City Council Meeting Minutes August 17, 2021 <br />the vaccine. Use of <br />new flyers and posters at public locations <br />• 8/10/21 Group member met with two private businesses on how to increase <br />our messaging in the Hispanic communities <br />• 8/10/21 Group members discussed options with Texas State University, <br />Shared Dashboard info <br />• Continue to develop a multi -department immediate, short and long-term <br />comprehensive plan for Community outreach. To include meeting with Dr. <br />Carranco, Director of the Student Health Center, from Texas State to <br />understand medical implications and any recent discoveries or effects of <br />COVID, itself. Once that plan is finalized, we will provide to Council. <br />• Increase information on social media with new PSA on vaccinations. <br />Messaging will touch on FAQ and where vaccines can be are considered safe <br />and effective as well as provide vaccination locations. <br />Action Items <br />• Group is looking into working with SMCISD on sending flyers home with <br />students <br />• Continue to review Dr. Jetelina's site as well the Juntos Podemos tool kit to <br />understand how other communities are approaching equitable and inclusive <br />outreach for hard -to -reach populations. <br />• Work with private/sponsor groups (e.g., Mermaid Parade) to promote <br />vaccines and safety practices at their events. <br />Outreach Internal <br />• 8/06/21 City Manager reminds Directors to limit in-person meetings, <br />encourage telework, and schedule appointments for services where possible. <br />Also, encourage Directors to ask their teams to lead by example by wearing <br />masks indoors when working in close proximity with staff and the public. <br />• 8/04/21 City COVID Outreach Planning Group surveying employees to <br />understand how many of our employees are vaccinated and how we can target <br />and encourage employees who are unvaccinated. <br />• Distribute new "handwashing" flyers and other general employee <br />communication about vaccinations, mask -wearing, social distancing and <br />staying home if a person feels sick stress the importance given increasing <br />positive numbers in our community and hospitalization rates; also talk about <br />the fact that the delta variant has different symptoms, sometimes more similar <br />to that of a cold so vigilance and caution is important. <br />Council Member Baker inquired about hospital capacity numbers. He also <br />asked why is there only one confirmed delta variant case in the community <br />being reported? Mr. Fitch stated he has not received information from the. <br />City of San Marcos Page 3 <br />
