City Council Meeting Minutes August 17, 2021 <br />disruption across the country. He noted that nurses have discussed with him <br />that during these difficult times, it is hard to not go where there is top pay. <br />Council Member Baker noted some people are afraid of the vaccine. He <br />inquired about how to address those concerns. Mr. McKinney noted that the <br />medicate community takes this very seriously. He stated that people should <br />check a health care provided and risk vs. benefit. <br />Council Member Gleason noted his family includes a number of health care <br />workers and thanked Mr. McKinney for his responses this evening. <br />Council Member Gonzales noted that he has worked for the local hospital for <br />29 years and stated the extreme importance to have enough nurses to provide <br />health care. <br />Council Member Garza inquired the number of ICU beds available. Mr. <br />McKinney noted that the numbers are changing every day as to availability. <br />His ICU is usually 10 beds but they are using other internal facilities to provide <br />health care. The are caring for non-Covid patients also. <br />Upon completion of council discussion, consensus was to have staff schedule a <br />special meeting to consider approval of funds. <br />2. Receive a presentation from TxDOT staff on 1-35 at SH 123 Improvements project. <br />Willie Semora, Project Manager with TxDOT, provided the presentation <br />regarding the Interstate 35 at State Highway 123 project. He mentioned the <br />purpose and need for this project is to improve mobility and safety by <br />reconstructing main lanes and adjacent frontage roads. The major items <br />include replacing the bridge over State Highway 123, replacing the northbound <br />& southbound frontage road bridges over the San Marcos River and Willow <br />Springs Creek, ramp improvements, drainage improvements, and high -mast <br />illumination. <br />Mr. Semora provided the project details which include the following items: <br />- Reconstruct the mainlanes and bridge over SH 123. <br />- Reconstruct the frontage road bridges over Willow Springs Creek. <br />- Raise and reconstruct the northbound frontage road bridge over the San <br />Marcos River. <br />- Widen the southbound frontage road bridge over the San Marcos River. <br />- Reverse ramps along the northbound and southbound frontage road between <br />SH 80 and SH 123. <br />City of San Marcos Page 6 <br />
