He stated Craddock needs speed bumps to slow down drivers and <br />make a difference for bicyclists. <br />Council Member Baker inquired about the data information that was <br />requested. Richard Reynosa, Assistant Director of Engineering stated we are <br />gathering the data, there is not enough information on safety or number of <br />accidents and will provide prior to the second reading. Council Member Baker <br />asked for statistics that the speakers are reporting. Mr. Reynosa stated the <br />information is a perceived safety while bicycling and the statistics they have <br />found is for more increased safety and has not found the data specifically. <br />Council Member Baker would like to see more signage around sharrows. He <br />asked if there are any additional repercussions for drivers for not following the <br />lane appropriately? Mr. Reynosa stated he would work with the <br />Transportation department to get more signs. <br />Mayor inquired about the sharrow sign and noted there is one in the 100 block <br />of W San Antonio St with a sign underneath that states "must change lanes to <br />pass" but there aren't enough lanes to do that. She asked for more <br />information at second reading. <br />Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Garza inquired about the existing literature on <br />sharrows and she would like staff to send the literature to council. <br />Mayor Hughson asked if we are reducing any car lanes and where. Ms. <br />Hernandez stated on Craddock if there is a protected bike lane. Mr. Reynosa <br />stated he would need to verify if the roads are being modified regarding the <br />Sessom project. Mayor Hughson would like to receive the information before <br />the second reading. <br />Council Member Baker inquired about implementation; how soon will all of <br />these plans be achieved? Mr. Reynosa responded that as we improve streets, <br />we will do what can be done. If striping, that will be done sooner. It is possible <br />that we will lose a turn lane in order to implement bike lanes in places. <br />Council Member Prather inquired about the green posts that are dividers <br />between driving lanes and bike lanes. He is concerned about the durability of <br />the units. Mr. Reynosa confirmed the use of the green posts and the smaller <br />units called "armadillos" as we have in other places. <br />Chase Stapp, Director of Public Safety answered Council Member Baker's <br />question regarding enforcement and stated there are enforcement when an <br />City of San Marcos Page 8 <br />
