Mrs. Norris moved to
approve the minutes and Mr. Farr seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.

Mayor Craddock moved Item #10 on the Agenda, "Receive a presentation
from the San Marcos Softball Association," and Item #11 on the Agenda,
"Consider approval of a 4-plex softball field proposal" forward for
consideration because there were many interested citizens present
for these items. Members of the San Marcos Softball Association
made a presentation~ to the Council. Jerry Sebek stated he thought
the City should own and control their own softball complex. Johnny
Pearce reviewed with the Council plans for a complex. It was esti-
mated a 4-plex softball field would cost approximately $135,000 to
construct. It was discussed that we pursue to obtain a grant with
the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the amount of $45,000
with the Softball Association matching these funds. The Softball
Association estimates the complex will cost $135,000 and want the
City to participate in 50% of all funds necessary above $90,000.
It was further discussed that the Softball Association in the future
would like to consider an 8-plex softball field so that the City
would have an opportunity to draw more tournaments to our area. A
commitment letter from State Bank and Trust Company is attached to
these minutes extending credit to the Softball Association for the
specific purpose of constructing a softball complex at the parkland
adjacent to Gary Job Corps Center.

Mayor Craddock introduced for consideration approval of a 4-plex soft-
ball field proposal. Jim Neuhaus of Jim's Gym addressed the Council,
as the only proposal that was submitted to the City for a softball
complex. He stated the Softball Association was a good organization
and could construct fields at a lower cost. Mr. Neuhaus would like
to construct a softball complex in his athletic complex at some time.
He would own the softball fields which might be considered a drawback
to the City. He felt that the relationship of a municipal government
and a private business could work very successfully though. Johnny
Finch of Jim's Gym added the importance of building a quality complex
