Specific events and ideas. Keen Independent received comments from respondents regarding the types of <br />events they found most important. Examples are listed below. <br /> Art fairs and shows; <br />Cultural events; <br />Farmer’s markets; <br /> Festivals (e.g., Eddy Durham Jazz Festival); <br /> Mermaid Ball; <br /> Parades; <br /> Park events (e.g., movies, live music). <br />Performing arts and theatre; <br /> River clean up; <br /> Sights and Sounds; and <br /> Wine walk. <br />Target diverse audiences. Several participants indicated that the most important types of gathering were <br />those that were inclusive to diverse audiences, including families. <br /> “Gatherings that bring diverse groups together and serve multiple purposes.” <br /> “Those where all can enjoy because they are not expensive but offer lots of fun and <br />socializing for family and the community.” <br /> Events that are inclusive and diverse. Events that serve all visitors, both residents and <br />tourists. Events and programs that inspire. <br /> “Anything to encourage our local residents to become involved in the community ….” <br />Event characteristics. Other respondents reported on the characteristics of gatherings that were most <br />important to them. <br /> “Ones that support small businesses or celebrate the culture and heritage of San Marcos.” <br /> “Experiences that focus on the environment, history, and prehistory.” <br /> “Anything that promotes awareness of arts in San Marcos.” <br /> “Ones with an educational component.” <br /> “Events that affirm our values as a people.” <br />Suggestions for More Arts and Culture Activities and Public Art <br />Keen Independent asked workshop participants about arts and culture activities they would like to see more <br />of as well as where they would like to see more public art in San Marcos. <br />Arts and culture activities respondents would like to see more of in San Marcos. Respondents provided <br />feedback about various activities that they would like San Marcos to offer as well as suggestions for changes. <br />Event offerings.
