General Community Programs <br />Cephas House should have an artist-in-residence as part of its programming. <br />Developcommunity transportation to campus for the Eddie Durham Jazz <br />Festival. This system should be employed for other performing events on <br />campus. <br />Expand CARTS services to provide transportation from senior centers to <br />cultural outlets. <br />Enhance creative writing programs in the community by taking Texas State <br />MFA program students and guests off campusfor readings in the community. <br />The Firehouse Recording Studio should developcommunity programs for <br />beginning musicians. <br />Continuing Education at Texas State should provideopportunities for artists to <br />take art classes forprofessional development. <br />Createa community-wide incubator for artists, an Adopt anArtist model <br />where businesses provide space and / or materials for an artist studio (possibly <br />recycled materials)resultingin a studio tour and installation of some of the art <br />in the community on a semi-permanent or permanent basis. <br />Create a monthly Noche de Cultura (Culture Night) at the Centro Cultural <br />Hispano in addition to cultural celebrations on 5 de Mayo, 16 de Septiembre, <br />and Dia de Los Muertos. <br />EVENTS <br />The Eddie Durham Jazz Festival should be revived, tiedinto the Texas State <br />JazzFestival, and take place in thecommunity as well as on campus. <br />Providearts and crafts tents at regular San Marcos events and gatherings such <br />as the Earth Day Celebration, Summer Concert Series and the Farmers Market. <br />Summer in the Park should become a mainstay annual event marketed as a <br />significant San Marcos attraction. <br />Parks and Recreation Department <br />Grant Harris, Jr., Building401 E, Hopkins San Marcos, TX 78666 \[512\] 393-8400 <br /> <br />
