5 = Highly Recommend <br />4 = Recommend <br />3= No Opinion <br />2 = Disapprove <br />1 = Highly Disapprove <br />Createan Art and Eco Event that showcase both SanMarcos’ arts and its <br />identity as a steward of natural resources. <br />The public art program—sculpture/art installations along trails and <br />Downtown—should culminate into amajor outdoor festival (music, dance, <br />theater) with the unveiling of the artwork synced to a significant major <br />community art event. <br />Art on the Square should be revived, advertised and work in concert with other <br />events such as Earth Day. <br />Hold major arts events when Texas State is not in session to help local <br />businesses in down times. <br />Create an Italian-style Chalk Art Festivalon the Square, which willoccur over <br />a day and night with projected art and laser art projections at night. <br />Create an annual Gospel Fest to feature gospel recording artists and local <br />community artists. <br />Hosta San Marcos Pow Wow celebratingNative American performance and <br />art,the springs as a significant element of Native American culture, and the <br />Chief Placedo monument asthe only sculpture in the area dedicated to Native <br />Americans. <br />Revive the Wine Stroll in conjunction with a Downtown art studio tour. <br />PROMOTING THE ARTS <br />The San Marcos music scene should be promotedas a Texas Music hub given <br />the popularity of the Cheatham Street Warehouse and the new Texas Music <br />Theater. <br />Createa San Marcos Music Commission. <br />Createan affiliate multi-disciplinary arts organization in San Marcos that <br />serves as an advocacy organization for the arts. <br />San Marcos should have staff dedicated to arts programming and not continue <br />to rely on voluntarism. <br />The City should create an Office of Cultural Affairs. <br />San Marcos needs an interactive, communicative arts website that allows for <br />easy linkages. <br />Parks and Recreation Department <br />Grant Harris, Jr., Building401 E, Hopkins San Marcos, TX 78666 \[512\] 393-8400 <br /> <br />
