5= Highly Recommend <br />4 = Recommend <br />3= No Opinion <br />2 = Disapprove <br />1 = Highly Disapprove <br />Develop a San Marcos arts website and distribute arts e-blasts to interested <br />community members. <br />Createa mechanism, such as a monthly calendar, announcing local arts events <br />and post them around the community. <br />Meeting planners should be made aware of talented students at Texas State <br />available to perform at events. <br />San Marcos should pursue Cultural District designation from the Texas <br />Commission on the Arts and encouragegreater density of the arts downtown. <br />The Chamber of Commerce should set up business workshops for artists. <br />Create a coffee shop art gallery tour guide and promote the tour with a handout <br />and Internet marketing. <br />The Arts Commission should become more pro-active in developing arts <br />organizations like River City Ballet to create a cadre of independent, quality <br />arts organizations in the community. <br />Incorporate the arts into Farmer’s Market with music and crafts. <br />Record Summer in the Parkmusic events as a program and sell it to television <br />stations. <br />Create a Texas Café PBS style-music series based at Cheatham Street. <br />Arts events and exhibits should be announced at City Council and Chamber of <br />Commerce meetingsto create a greater awareness of SanMarcos arts. <br />FUNDING THE ARTS <br />The City should have a Penny for the Artsprogram where 1% of every dollar <br />spent on public construction goes to the commission of a public art <br />installation. <br />Increase the appropriation from the Hotel Occupancy Tax for theSan Marcos <br />Arts Commission. <br />Fundafter-school arts programs that run until 6 p.m. at every campus utilizing <br />Title 1 funds, which can be allocated to support arts programming. <br />There should be an Art in Public Places policy included in the citywide <br />comprehensive master plan when it comes up for revision in 18 monthsas <br />part of public development. <br />Parks and Recreation Department <br />Grant Harris, Jr., Building401 E, Hopkins San Marcos, TX 78666 \[512\] 393-8400 <br /> <br />
