Local Arts Agency Operations: Creative Flagstaff Case Study <br />45 <br />Flagstaff, Arizona| 2019 population:72,402| 2020 local university population: 21,495 <br />History. The local arts agency currently known as Creative Flagstaff was established in 1997 following a <br />cultural needs assessment sponsored by the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. Their primary role is <br />to manage the Coconino Center for the Arts facility, administer pass-through grant funds for the Art and <br />Science Fund, and to oversee various creative programs in the community. <br />Core Programs.Creative Flagstaff oversees the operations and promotion of the following programs <br />Six annual art exhibitions, venueViola Awards Gala; <br />rentals and concerts at the <br /> Flagstaff 365 Events <br />Coconino Center for the Arts; <br />Calendar; and <br /> Art and Science Fund grants; <br />Professional development, <br /> ArtWalk FLG; artist workshops and other <br /> informal opportunities <br />Key Partners. Formed as a partnership between City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, Northern Arizona <br />University, Coconino Community College, Flagstaff Unified School District, and Greater Flagstaff Chamber of <br />Commerce. Additional support by Arizona Commission on the Arts, Northern Arizona University, Babbitt <br />Brothers, Art Works, National Endowment for the Arts and Coconino County Arizona. <br />Funding Structure. In 1988, Flagstaff voters adopted a Bed, <br />Figure B-4. Breakdown of Creative Flagstaff <br />Board and Beverage (BBB) tax, adding a 2% levy to gross sales <br />budget, fiscal year 2019 <br />of revenue generated from hotels, motels, campgrounds, <br />bars and restaurants. In 1996, 7.5% of this revenue was <br />Other <br />allocated to an Arts and Science Fund, coinciding with the <br />Expenses <br />formation of what is now Creative Flagstaff. These funds <br />14% <br />support pass-through grant funds for local art and science <br />nonprofits, which are administered on behalf of Flagstaff City <br />Council by Creative Flagstaff as the lead arts agency for <br />Salaries/ <br />the area. <br />Grants and <br />Compensation/ <br />Similar <br />Employee <br />Creative Flagstaff receives an annual fee of about $70,000 for <br />Amounts Paid <br />Benefits <br />55% <br />administering the grant funds to approximately 40 art, <br />31% <br />science and culture agencies and special projects, distributing <br />$447,000 in 2020.
