2. What’s the Big Idea? <br />Participants wrote ideas for arts and culture amenities and events onto sticky notes and placed them on the <br />wall. This activity offered a way for people to see the comments posted and build from one another’s ideas. <br />Events and programs. Participants provided a variety of ideas related to specific events and programs <br />they’d like to see in San Marcos, such as an Art Walk, music programs and juried art events. <br /> “Youth art activities.” <br />“Celebrate TX Independence Day more.” <br />“Juried city-wide art shows with awards.” <br /> “Region wide juried art events.” <br />“Weekly mariachi needed! Please!!” <br />“Performance art.” <br /> “Add different cultural city-wide events—Jewish, Mexican, AA, etc.” <br />“Poetry readings.” <br /> “Art Walk.” <br /> “Make the arts matter.” <br /> “A civic orchestra… do we have one?” <br /> “Theatre for all including youth.” <br /> “Music programs for children.” <br /> “Community theatre company… do we have one?” <br /> “Not Cinco De Mayo, Day of the Race ties in 14 Columbus Indigenous Tejas current.” <br /> “Difficulties with city on various independent events! Film Fest, Mardi Gras <br />and more!” <br /> “Use the sidewalk space on Hopkins by the library and activities center for artists to set up <br />and sell their art. The artists could rent each spot.” <br /> “More local art, something similar to east Austin studio tour.” <br /> “Keep the Lost River Festival in San Marcos.” <br />Infrastructure.Some ideas presented were related to the use of existing spaces (such as empty store <br />fronts), the development of a new space (such as an arts center) and the coordination of arts events. <br /> “Find ways to support all of this with structure.” <br /> “Coordinate arts events—city position?” <br /> “Galleries: Privately owned city/county vacant buildings.” <br /> “Art on the east side of town.” <br /> “Youth and family makerspace network.” <br /> “Performing Arts Center.” <br /> “Build a cultural arts center.” <br /> “Performance venue, gallery studios.” <br /> “How to get building owners to fill empty store fonts.” <br /> “Temporary storefront galleries.” <br />KEEN INDEPENDENT RESEARCH —SAN MARCOS ARTS MASTER PLAN 2022 APPENDIX D,PAGE 7 <br /> <br />
