“Partner with TX State to rent/use their performing arts center.” <br />“More outside of downtown.” <br /> “Art judges from Texas State University and student involvement.” <br />Promotion. Several ideas posted were specific to the promotion and communication of cultural assets and <br />events in San Marcos. <br /> “Pole Banners in the Historic District.” <br />“Walking maps of murals and historical places.” <br />“Incentives for patronage.” <br /> “Tie art, heritage and culture together to draw more tourism.” <br />“Billboards and tv ads for local arts events.” <br />Historic preservation. Several ideas were focused on the historical heritage of San Marcos related to the <br />designation of a historic district and the use of historic buildings. <br /> “Save Historic buildings for arts and ‘a sense of place.’” <br /> “Central arts and historic district combined in downtown with walking streets, offsite <br />parking public transportation.” <br /> “Historical museums.” <br /> “Use Historic courthouse for visual arts backdrop a la the saga of San Antonio.” <br />3. Cultural Maps Review <br />Draft versions of the 2021 cultural maps were available for review and feedback. Three maps were <br />presented to show San Marcos’ cultural inventory of public art, museums, galleries, historic sites, <br />performance venues and event space. Participants were invited to provide feedback to note any cultural <br />points they felt were missing. <br />Compared with the cultural map from the 2012 Arts Master Plan which had total 46 points noted for the <br />same categories (minus public art), the new cultural maps comprise of 63 points of public art, 10 historic <br />sites, 13 museums and galleries, and 40 performance venues and event spaces, representing an increase to <br />126 arts and cultural points of interest in San Marcos. <br /> <br />KEEN INDEPENDENT RESEARCH —SAN MARCOS ARTS MASTER PLAN 2022 APPENDIX D,PAGE 8 <br /> <br />
