City Council Meeting Minutes April 5, 2022 <br />Stephanie Reyes, Interim City Manager, provided a brief introduction. She <br />stated City Council reviewed and discussed the 2022-2026 Strategic Initiatives <br />at its Visioning Session held on January 13-14, 2022. At that session, Council <br />agreed on the following strategic initiatives: <br />- Workforce Housing <br />- Sustainability <br />- Covid Response <br />- Community Safety <br />- Economic Development <br />She mentioned City Council decided to include an Assessment of Community <br />Assistance as an <br />additional area of focus and to Develop an Equity Policy. She stated council <br />clarified that the strategic initiatives are for the next 3 to 5 years. Mrs. Reyes <br />stated the strategic initiatives are categorized into short-term (completed in <br />12-18 months), intermediate (completed in 18-36 months), and long-term <br />(completed in over 36 months). She mentioned core services are designated as <br />well as those that will need additional resources to complete. <br />Mayor Hughson would like for the clean copy of the council's strategic <br />initiatives to be sent to council and the links to the website that will be posted. <br />The motion carried by the following vote: <br />For: 7 - Mayor Hughson, Council Member Baker, Council Member Gonzales, Mayor Pro <br />Tem Scott, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Garza, Council Member Prather and Council <br />Member Gleason <br />Against: 0 <br />15. Consider approval of Resolution 2022-72R approving the renaming of City Recreation Hall <br />(located within City Park) to Pauline Espinosa Community Hall; authorizing the Interim City <br />Manager to install any signs and recognition plaques reflecting the new name of the facility as <br />may be appropriate; and declaring an effective date. <br />MAIN MOTION: A motion was made by Council Member Gleason, seconded <br />by Council Member Gonzales, to approve Resolution 2022-72R. <br />Mayor Hughson noted that the Rec Hall has had that name for many, many <br />years and she is concerned about confusion by long term residents not <br />knowing these are the same building. She feels that keeping "Rec Hall" in the <br />name will be helpful. <br />MOTION TO AMEND: A motion was made by Mayor Hughson, seconded by <br />Mayor Pro Tem Scott, to amend Resolution 2022-72R, to strikethrough <br />"community" and insert "recreation", the new name of the recreation hall will <br />City of San Marcos Page 8 <br />
