Less <br />than 10 percent of property destroyed or with major <br />damage. <br />Each of the hazard profiles includes a description of a general Vulnerability Assessment. <br />Vulnerability is the total of assets that are subject to damages from a hazard, based on historic <br />recorded damages. Assets in the region were inventoried and defined in hazard zones where <br />appropriate. The total amount of damages, including property and crop damages, for each hazard <br />is divided by the total number of assets (building value totals) in that community to determine the <br />percentage of damage that each hazard can cause to the community. Risk and consequences <br />will be addressed and covered within each hazard profile under the Vulnerability and Impact <br />section as well as under the Assessment of Impact sections, where applicable. <br />To better understand how future growth and development in the City of San Marcos might affect <br />hazard vulnerability, it is useful to consider population growth, occupied and vacant land, the <br />potential for future development in hazard areas, and current planning and growth management <br />efforts. The city's vulnerability to hazards was considered based on recent development changes <br />that occurred throughout the planning area.
