Museum Activities, Community Involvements,and Partnerships l. Host weekly tours, both public and private. 2. Rotating quarterly—Art Exhibits depicting local history (Miss 011ie Store Mural)and allowing local artists to showcase their artwork. 3. We give yearly scholarships to San Marcos High School students and Texas State students. (Johnnie Armstead, Dr. Skyller Walks, and Dr. Holt) Last year,we had a total of 10 awards. 4. We host yearly Field Trip tours for the San Marcos High School kids. We encourage our kids to learn more about diverse cultures in our community. (Diane Garza) 5. Train (Docents)from "Texas State and residents interested in learning more about the Calaboose African American Museum. They are encouraged to join board members when tours are scheduled. 6. Hired the museum's first Director. She is also responsible for training docents and guided tours that include the Cephas House. 7. Partnered with Texas State disability program. The first student will start this summer training and learning more about museum history. 8. We partner with local organizations participating in history-related events and help promote events for them. (Price Center) 9. The museum hosts the yearly Eddie Durham Fest located at Eddie Durham Park. 10. The museum participates in and collaborates with local organizations and community groups to keep the facility open to the public. 11. We allow residents in the Dunbar community to showcase their historical artifacts and memorabilia. They are allowed to rotate items on a quarterly basis. 12. The Heritage House has opened up many opportunities to collaborate with them regarding tours and special events. 13. Partner with our local radio station to help promote the Calaboose, Cephas House, and special event(Eddie Durham Festival) 104.1 FM 14. Partner with Downtown (City of San Marcos)for special events and touring opportunities for the community. (Downtown Association) 15. Gary Job Corps collaborates with Lis regarding our special events (Eddie Durham). Private tours are open to them throughout the year. 16. The Commemorative Air Force Exhibit has several badge and model plane artifacts on loan with the museum. 17. The museum brochure is distributed throughout the community with the help of many local organizations, including the Heritage House and Price Center.
