Do we want to maintain the current tax level and
significantly reduce our level of services? Do we want to
make do with less and pay for less? Or do we want to keep
pace with our current needs and pay more?
Municipal government is service-oriented. We are
required to provide critically needed services in police and
fire protection, streets, water, wastewater and electric
utilities and much more. How well the City does its job
reflects on the safety and the quality of life of every
citizen of San Marcos. I strongly believe that city services
are more efficient and that the Council has better allocated
shrinking revenues than in years past.
During the public hearing process, this Council hopes to
hear viable solutions and suggestions concerning the City
budget. We want to know what is important to you. In an
effort to provide for the majority of our citizens, we must
couple financial reality with a vision for the future.
Our goal is to assess our needs and t~ pay for them, and
to prosper financially to reduce the burde~ on the taxpayer.
~, as a community, must work together, be Nilling to give
and take, and seek equity in utilizing the ~unicipal tax
dollar to its best advantage.
