<br />77. <br />Special Meeting <br /> <br />September 2, 2003 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Campbell stated she is the manager of the Nine West store. She stated the <br />Sales Tax Holiday is important to consumers. She feels this Sales Tax <br />Holiday has a huge impact on San Marcos. 9) Nancy Braun stated she is the <br />manager of Tanger Outlets. She stated traffic has grown 74% an the Sales <br />Tax Holiday, over the past five years. She stated this year it was 110 . <br />degrees on the sidewalks and they were packed. She stated she is against <br />the Council opting out of the Sales Tax Holiday. 10) Lydia Marie Trevino <br />stated she is a member of the Hospitality Association. She stated the <br />Sales Tax Holiday has turned San Marcos into the destination for that <br />weekend. She stated this weekend increases the shoppers from Mexico. She <br />feels the shoppers would shop somewhere else if Council opts out of the <br />Sales Tax Holiday. Mr. Diaz stated he feels the speakers know best the <br />effects of opting out of the Sales Tax Holiday. Mr. Taylor stated he now <br />understands what items are tax-free. He supports keeping the Sales Tax <br />Holiday. Mr. Montoya stated he feels private businesses know how to keep <br />their businesses successful. He supports keeping the Sales Tax Holiday. <br />Mr. Mihalkanin stated he supports keeping the Sales Tax Holiday. Mr. <br />Thomaides stated he is glad the Council had this discussion to educate the <br />Council and public on the Sales Tax Holiday. He stated he supports <br />keeping the Sales Tax Holiday. Ms. Narvaiz stated she looked at this <br />discussion as an opportunity to learn more about the Sales Tax Holiday. <br />She supports keeping the Sales Tax Holiday. Mayor Habingreither stated he <br />feels the outlets are the town jewel and he thanked them for all they do <br />for the City. He stated he supports keeping the Sales Tax Holiday. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the <br />Government Code, Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice <br />regarding pending litigation, contemplated litigation, a settlement offer, <br />or a matter involving attorney-client privilege (San Marcos Area Chamber <br />of COmlllerCe economic development and tourism promotion contracts) ¡and <br />Section 551.074, to discuss the duties of a public officer (City Manager). <br />Mr. Mihalkanin moved the Council adjourn into Executive Session at 7:40 <br />p.m. and Ms. Narvaiz seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Mihalkanin moved the Council reconvene at 9:13 p.m. and Ms. Narvaiz <br />seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9:13 p.m. on motion made by Ms. Narvaiz and <br />seconded by Mr. Thomaides. <br /> <br />M-~. <br /> <br />Robert Habingreither <br />Mayor <br />
