The Executive Session adjourned at 6:58 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008.
4. Reconvene and Consider Action on Item Discussed During Executive Session.
The San Marcos City Council reconvened into regular session at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
April 15, 2008. The following direction to staff was required from Executive Session:
Direction was given to the Interim City Manager to continue discussion with the
consultant, ARCUS, regarding the city manager candidates.
5. Invocation
Pastor Jason Bollinger, with the Riverstone Community Church, provided the invocation.
6. Pledge of Allegiance
Tom Tvrdik, commander of American Legion Post 144 led the assembly in the Pledge of
Allegiance. Pat Murdoch, President of the American Legion Auxilliary, along with
James Stewart, Lois Stewart, Sandy Tvrdik, and Margie Villapando from the American
Legion Auxilliary recited the preamble.
7. Citizen Comments
Jakob Grothe, 800 N. LBJ, spoke about a proposition for separated use, focusing on
students living on North LBJ and Aquarena Springs Drive. It is very difficult for students
to get to campus without adequate transportation. Craddock has been improved with a
separation in the middle — a form of separated use. He recommended two -lane roads with
some type of separation like metal poles or a greenway for two -wheel traffic. It would
also be aesthetically pleasing. Mayor Narviaz directed him to consult with the
transportation board.
Sherri Bilson, 2006 Lisa Lane, thanked the mayor and council for their hard work. She
also thanked them for the great selection of city manager candidates. She recommended
the council think outside box regarding trash pickup, such as two pickups every other
week. She expressed her concern that once a week pickup could result in trash stacking
up on curbs. There could be extra pickups on odd weeks or in areas known for high trash
volume. People should recycle, but many do not.
Marla Johnson, San Marcos, Texas, provided the status of the new family violence
center. They need to raise $176,000. May 1 is the anticipated groundbreaking. She
asked the Council to consider waiving the impact fees on the project. She emphasized
how important this is; where they are now is not safe, and they need to build a new center
as soon as possible. She reported that McCoy's has donated $1 million, and they
currently have in hand $162,000 in cash.
PDFConvert.2752.1.RM041508 Minutes.doc
