The <br />proposed project is authorized am through the Continuing Authorities Program (CAP), Section <br />206 Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Program of the Water Resources Development Act of <br />1996. Congressional District: Texas District 14. <br />3, Sponsor: The City of San Marcos, Texas. <br />4., Location: The city of San Marcos is located in south central Texas in Hays County, <br />ntY= <br />approximately 30 miles southwest of Austin, Texas (Enclosure 1 proposed . The osed } p p restoration <br />area is located within the city limits of San Marcos along and within the San Marcos <br />River. <br />The study area consists of an approximate 1.0 -mile stretch of the San Marcos River <br />and <br />associated riparian corridor that extends from the first footbridge below City Park <br />g Y <br />downstream to Interstate 35 (Enclosure 2 ). The city p arks associated with the proposed <br />restoration plan include City, Bicentennial, Children's Park -Pla sca e Rio Vista and Lu <br />Y p � civ. <br />5. Preliminary Restoration Plan: <br />a. Summary Description. The proposed aquatic ecosystem restoration J ro' ect will restore <br />e <br />and enhance degraded aquatic and terrestrial habitat aloe and within the San Marcos <br />g River. <br />The restoration of aquatic and terrestrial habitat will directly benefit the environment <br />. Y by <br />increasing biodiversity, carrying capacity, stability and productivity f native plant and <br />� <br />wildlife species endemic to the area. Additional benefits associated with the reliminar <br />p Y <br />restoration plan that are consistent with the restoration, include improvement of existing <br />g <br />recreational opportunities, enhancement of water quality, and improvement of natural <br />p <br />aesthetics. The preliminary restoration plan will restore and sustain approximately 22.0 acres <br />es <br />of riparian woodland habitat, 6.0 acre of tall grass prairie habitat 4.0 acres of emergent <br />wetland habitat and 16.0 acres of aquatic habitat within the stud area. The total project <br />is Y p � cast <br />is estimated at $3,659,000, which will be cost- shared 65% Federal Government and 35% <br />City of San Marcos. Cost sharing associated with restoration measures was calculated <br />resulting in a total Federal share of $2,378,000 and a Sponsor share of $1,281,000. 000. The City <br />Y <br />of San Marcos will provide the non - Federal contribution through cash ($0), lands ($900,000) g <br />and work-in-kind services ($400,000 ).
