furnish each residential unit with one new cart. The size of the cart will be 96 gallons, 68 <br />gallons or 3 5 gallons (these capacities are approximate). The Contractor will provide <br />customers with new smaller carts upon request of the customer. The Contractor will not <br />substitute used carts during the term of this Contract for those originally provided to <br />customers. If a customer's cart is in need of replacement, however, the Contractor may replace <br />the cart with a new or like new cart if the cart is in a condition acceptable to the Director. <br />Residents have the option to purchase an additional 96 gallon cart for $95 + tax from <br />Contractor at a location in San Marcos, Texas. Delivery of an additional purchased cart shall <br />be made available by Contractor for a fee not to exceed $75.00. Residents also have the option <br />to purchase a new 96 gallon cart over a 6 month period. Residents also have the option to rent <br />the cart for $5 per month <br />B. Newly Annexed Areas: For residential units in portions of the contract area that have been <br />newly annexed to the City, the customers will have the choice of immediately switching to the <br />Contractor, or continuing to use solid waste collection contractors other than the Contractor for <br />a period of two (2) years after the annexation. For such areas, the City will notify the <br />Contractor of the address of residential units to add for services under this Contract during the <br />two year period. After the two year period, the Contractor will provide services under this <br />Contract for all residential units in such areas. <br />C. The Contractor will propose and implement measures to prevent spillage with the mode of <br />collection (automated/semi-automated) used by the Contractor (See section 1.4.1, Quality). <br />D. The cost for this service will be included in the cost per month per residential unit for basic <br />residential service. <br />E. At a customer's request, the Contractor will provide additional carts for the customer's use and <br />the cost for this service will be $5.00 per month in addition to the cost per month for basic <br />residential service. <br />1.3.2 Residential Unit Recyclable Materials <br />A. The Contractor will collect the following recyclable materials from each residential unit in the <br />contract area one (1) time per week on the same day as the regular scheduled solid waste <br />collection: <br />Aluminum beverage cans <br />Ferrous cans <br />Clear glass <br />Colored glass <br />Newsprint/magazines <br />Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) #'s 1 and 2 <br />Direct mail advertisements <br />With the Director's approval, the Contractor will have the right to add or delete material types from <br />time to time based upon the commercial markets for the materials. Customers will not be required to <br />separate materials by type prior to collection. All recyclable materials collected by the Contractor <br />will become its property. <br />
