Item 16 was pulled from the Consent Agenda. <br />MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilmember Bose and a second by <br />Councilmember Guerrero, the City Council voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed, to <br />approve the Consent Agenda, less iteml6. The motion carried unanimously. <br />(16)MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilmember Guerrero and a second by <br />Councilmember Council, the City Council voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed, to <br />postpone discussion on this item until the May 20 meeting. The motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Rose Brooks, 308 Magnolia, San Marcos, Texas 78666, spoke on item 16 on behalf of <br />American Maid Service and asked Council to consider what they are doing when they do <br />not award this contract to a local business. <br />END OF CONSENT AGENDA. <br />18. Consideration on appointments to fill the vacancies on: <br />A. Animal Shelter: Frank Cheatham was appointed. <br />B. Arts Commission: Noemi Govea was appointed. <br />C. Housing Authority: Stacy Green was appointed. <br />D. Minority Tourism Development Board: Sofia Velasquez, John Rodriquez, and <br />Gilbert Lombardo, Jr. was appointed. <br />E. Youth Commission: Lupe Castillo was appointed. <br />19. Public Hearing to receive comments for and against the 2008 CDBG allocation <br />of funds and direction to staff. <br />Mayor Narvaiz opened the Public Hearing at 9:04 p.m. <br />Marla Johnson, 1606 Palomino, San Marcos, Texas 78666, Executive Director for Hays <br />County Women's Shelter, asked for support of the playground construction, which is the <br />final piece in the shelter project. She anticipates 200-250 children per year will be <br />served. <br />Ruben Garza, 518 S. Guadalupe, San Marcos, Texas 78666, said he has been at Southside <br />for 24 years and asked Council to support the efforts of reconstruction in our <br />neighborhoods. They had 20 homes this year, and already have some on a waiting list. <br />This is a vital project and provides revitalization in blighted areas. <br />There being no further public comments, and the Public Hearing was closed at 9:10 p.m. <br />Council directed staff to re-direct the Durham Park Project funds ($24,000) to the Rio <br />Vista Basketball Court. <br />PDFConvert.2895.1.RM050608 Minutes.doc <br />Page 5 of 9
