%1W 4
Work Plan
San Marcos, Texas Park Rangers
The Rangers will use the equipment as needed in collaboration with other area EMS,
Fire and Police calls for mutual aid. The project equipment will be available for
thousands of park patrons daily. The total budget for this project is $22,359.02 with a
funding request from DSHS for $18,359.02. Priority listed on budget page is
determined by the goals and objectives of our project. At present, we have requested
the required matching funds form the San Marcos Lions Club. They operate the tube
rentals on the river for their charitable causes and are long-time supporters of the Park
Rangers. If they are unable to contribute the matching funds, we will use the small
amount of unencumbered funds on hand for the match.
All items on our budget list are critical to our program and will be used by trained,
conscientious individuals. A careful inventory and accounting will be maintained on all
equipment. It will be kept in excellent operable condition.
Plan for continuation
This Park Ranger program has grown every year since its creation in 1997. It has
proven successful over the past eleven years. It reflects positively upon the City of San
Marcos in its efforts to assure the health and safety of its residents and visitors. The
city has made a commitment to the viability of the Park Rangers Team to the best of its
fiscal ability in spreading limited financial resources across many community needs.
The equipment will be appreciated and used with care. It will be kept in excellent
operable condition. Only the highly trained Rangers will have custody of the valuable
equipment and will direct its use.
The Rangers receive continuing education at least every 18 months. Training is
important to Program supervisors and funds are budgeted and allocated each year for
this important program component. The Park Ranger Coordinator and Supervisor have
continually worked to keep the program alive and well by maintaining a good rapport
with city officials by working callaboratively with other EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement
professionals. These efforts, the growing need, and sound program management will
ensure is continuation.
History of project completion
The Paris Ranger program has had a noticeable impact on the park system and the city
as a whole. This impact is noted by positive comments received from park patrons
regarding the services provided by the Rangers. The highly visible Rangers increase
the overall sense of security and reduce careless behavior, which in turn reduces
accidents and injuries.
The Park Ranger Program has been the recipient of a past grant from the American
Heart Association. We received two AEDs from the Association, which are in use
today. The are encased in protective pelican boxes. They are still in excellent working
order due to proper care and quarterly maintenance and programming checkouts.
