CITY PRESERVATION ALIGNMENT <br />The City of San Marcos has a dedicated Historic Preservation Program under the Planning and <br />Development Services Department, however, consideration of cultural and historic resources <br />are integrated into almost every other City department and division's goals, plans, and decision - <br />making processes. In addition to the Planning & Development Services Department, Destination <br />Services, the Economic Development Department (which oversees the Main Street Program), and <br />the Parks and Recreation Department work closely with cultural and historic resources. A review of <br />citywide plans, codes, and programs indicate how well other departments and division align with the <br />Department of Planning and Development Historic Preservation Program. <br />Engineering Considers connectivity between historic resources <br />& Capital Master Plans, 2018-2023 among other resources in its thoroughfare, bicycle, and <br />Improvements greenway plans. <br />Parks and Open Space Master Among its many goals, the plan aims to add additional <br />Recreation Plan, 2019 historical, cultural, and natural resource interpretative <br />Department signage. <br />Deeply considers historic assets in its plan and defines <br />Arts Commission Master Plan, 2022 the role of the City in supporting arts and culture to <br />improve quality of life and economic development. <br />Encourages and supports high quality new business <br />Economic Economic <br />development and the expansion of its business <br />Development Development <br />community through retention, expansion, and <br />Policy, 2022 <br />recruitment endeavors; includes numerous incentives <br />for use in historic redevelopment. <br />Strives to conserve, protect, and enhance existing <br />Community Programmingresources, <br />in particular trees and natural landscapes <br />Forestry <br />and to establish and maintain new trees on more than <br />2,004 acres. <br />Strives to preserve and encourage cleanup of natural <br />resources which is essential to pre -contact and historic <br />Neighborhood Resource Recovery <br />settlement interpretation; promotes native habitats; <br />Enhancement Program <br />helps manage stormwater run-off, which benefits <br />cultural landscapes; and highlight historic and non - <br />historic gardens through the Keep San Marcos Beautiful <br />Spring Garden tour. <br />Actively preserves and promotes the historic identity <br />of downtown San Marcos through a balanced focus on <br />design, economic vitality, organization, and promotional <br />Main Street Programming <br />activities. It also supports a dedicated Downtown <br />Clean Team, who handle litter removal, landscaping <br />maintenance, amenity upkeep, graffiti management, <br />and minor repairs, reinforcing the visual integrity and <br />heritage character of the district. <br />POLICY & PROGRAMS 107 <br />
