LINKING CULTURAL & NATURAL RESOURCES <br />FINDINGS <br />4 <br />1. City departments have funded a <br />variety of plans to guide developing <br />trails, urban walkability, and expansion <br />of arts and economic development. <br />2. The City Parks Department, <br />Destination Services and Arts <br />Commission, and partners like Texas <br />State and the San Marcos Greenbelt <br />Alliance have installed wayfinding <br />throughout the downtown, parks, <br />natural areas, conservation easements, <br />and attrailheads. <br />3. Consider creation of a consolidated plan in <br />coordination with other City departments to <br />connect the City's wide array of publicly and <br />privately owned cultural and natural resources <br />and the ways in which they are currently <br />interpreted. <br />2. Create unified wayfinding graphics between <br />City -funded and public and private partners' <br />wayfinding, interpretative signage, and state and <br />national markers. <br />3. Explore development of a multilingual local <br />wayfinding program that includes English, <br />Spanish, and Coahuiltecan, the Indigenous <br />language of the region. Additionally, consider <br />participation in the Texas Heritage Trails Program. <br />4. Enhance the historic El Camino Real de los <br />Tejas NHTthrough San Marcos using signage, <br />wayfinding, and public art. Using information <br />regarding trail design as well as trail awareness <br />and experience from the NPS-created <br />Conceptual Strategy for Development of the <br />Santa Fe, Oregon, and California NHTs would <br />be particularly useful as guidelines for the <br />development of the El Camino Real de los Tejas <br />NHTthroughout the City. Any added elements <br />should be thoughtfully integrated into the <br />streetscape and designed to complement, not <br />distract from, the surrounding character. <br />5.
