It grew out of the San Marcos Bicentennial Commission, formed in <br />1972 to plan and coordinate the city's celebration of the nation's Bicentennial <br />in 1976. Encouraged restoration of private homes; initiated protection of the <br />environment; and encouraged the continued safeguard of the San Marcos <br />River. Maintains the Charles S. Cock House, and hosts the Annual Heritage <br />Home Tour.
