Final Report <br />Temporary Flow Monitoring <br />In order to perform an I/I analysis and establish the existing capacity being used during dry and wet <br />weather, it will be necessary to obtain flow monitoring information during both dry and wet weather. <br />Under ideal conditions, multiple events are recorded to establish the volume of extraneous water that <br />enters the collection system. From this collected data the inflow response for each storm event is <br />determined. Information obtained during the monitoring period will be used to determine the <br />following for each site: <br />1. Average daily flow-dry weather <br />2. Peak flow-dry weather <br />3. Average daily flow-wet weather <br />4. Peak flow-wet weather <br />5. Peak inflow rates <br />6. Total I/I volume <br />7. In-situ pipe capacity used and remaining (dry and wet weather) <br />By undertaking temporary flow monitoring, the existing performance of the collection system can be <br />determined. (Note: This phase of the sewer evaluation has been completed.) <br />M • <br />anhole Inspection and Condition Assessment <br />Manhole inspections and condition assessments will be an important task during the course of the <br />system evaluation. Many hydraulic problems within the collection system will be identified during <br />this phase. Manhole inspections will provide basic data including line size, depth from rim to invert, <br />and pipeline cover (i.e. street, yard, easement, alley, etc.). The casting/cone condition and manhole <br />cover will be evaluated for such items as vented covers that are in low-lying areas since casting/cone <br />connection and covers are possible sources of inflow. <br />1. Manhole walls will be checked for integrity and signs of root intrusion, deterioration of <br />mortar joints, loose or missing bricks, signs of surcharge, etc. <br />2. The bench will be checked for type and depth of debris, flow conditions thru the manhole <br />and any signs of settlement that may impede the achievement of design flows. <br />3. Influent and effluent lines in each manhole will be compared to existing maps and <br />corrections noted. All sewer line to manhole connections will be inspected to determine if <br />any manhole settlement has separated or sheared pipelines. <br />4. Inspection of each influent and effluent line to determine line conditions. <br />5. Silt depositions that reduce flow capacity will be noted and depth of silt recorded. <br />Smoke Testine <br />Smoke testing will provide detailed information on wet weather inflow sources. In order to <br />maximize the identification of inflow sources, it will be important to complete smoke testing during <br />dry soil conditions.
