January 12, 2010
Ms. Darlene Lewis
THF; C'?TV ()F
SAN MARCOS
f
Director of Community Outreach Grant Program
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
4200 Smith School Road
Austin, TX 78744
Re: Support Letter
Request by San Marcos Nature Center
Dear Ms. Lewis:
I offer my support for the request being made by the San Marcos Nature Center to the Texas Parks &
Wildlife Department-Outreach Grant Program.
Grant and city funds will be used to expand outreach efforts by the Nature Center and to provide hands-
on activities to a rapidly increasing student population, including many low-income and disadvantaged
children, who have never attended a nature camp or visited local or state parks.
Noted in the application is in-kind match being provided by the City of San Marcos PARD thru the time
allocated by Julie King, Nature Center Coordinator and Melani Howard, Watershed Protection Manager,
the amount of $17,823. This was calculated at 25% of salary and benefits for Julie and 5% of salary and
benefits for Melani.
I urge favorable action on this request. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact my office at
512-393-8400 or email Julie King at Iking ci.san-marcos.tx.us.
Sincerely,
wrj
William Ford
Asst.
