be taking place on June 19, 20 and 21, and it is not too late to get in the parade or car
show.
Councilmember Couch reported she had a great time in Mexico. She also reported that
she visited with the young lady at the Embassy Suites, and they are excited about how
much they have booked for 2009.
Councilmember Bose reported that he had attended the rail district board meeting. He
learned Union Pacific is behind locating the railroads at different locations, and this is
going to take place sooner than we think. They are putting in a new track from Laredo to
the west coast of Mexico. They want to develop a track to handle all that freight, and
they are also considering branding that train. He told the Council we are fortunate to
have John Thomaides on there; he is a good representative. He also reported that the
future meetings will be here because we are centrally located. Thursday evening he spent
time at the Concert in the Park, and it was nice and cool by the river. Saturday morning
he went to Texas Water Safari and was impressed by the participants. He learned it is not
about winning the race, but just participating and comradeship. Father's Day made him
think of Tim Russert who just recently passed away, and he thanked those fathers out
there that just do their job quietly and help us to do our jobs better.
Councilmember Guerrero thanked his colleagues for their patience at the previous
meeting he was unable to attend because of family health concerns. He was glad to
report that all has been resolved. He is finishing up a course in leading organizational
change and learning to understand a vision and core values. He is looking forward to our
visioning conversation.
Mayor Narvaiz reported she had attended several graduations, specifically San Marcos
High School and the Hays County GED graduation. There were parents with their
children getting their GED together, or husbands and wives getting their GED together.
Also, there was a person that had just recently become a U.S. citizen, and they were just
completing their GED. She noted that people still come to our country to pursue their
dreams. This was just one person that illuminates what our country is about. On the
subject of trains, she met with the Public Relations person from Union Pacific. He drove
around and observed first hand the condition of the tracks. She also received a follow up
call from Senator Cornyn before his meeting with the President of Union Pacific. She
reported that she will be attending the second meeting of the I-35 Corridor Committee,
and they will re-look the alignment. This Saturday, Texas State University will be
hosting a delegation from Del Rio and Acuna, and several of our City counterparts will
be participating as well. Mayor Narvaiz also reported she attended the Promise Land
Church fifth anniversary celebration. On behalf of C.J. Morgan, she expressed his
appreciation for the opportunity to attend the Best Practices conference in College
Station.
CONSENT AGENDA
10.
