VASQUEZ
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

To Whom It May Concern:

I commend and support the efforts being made by the San Marcos
Public Library to obtain a Federal Grant which will enable
them to develop and improve Library Services for adults with
less than a twelfth grade education.

As Director of Community Action, Inc. I have seen first hand
the need for adult basic education plus the life skills and
a more individualized program to teach adults who in turn can
help their children at home to be better students in school.

As Ç:hairman of the City's Minorities Commission I have seen
good hard working people being kept back from job promotions
for lack of basic reading and writing skills.

This area of South Central Texas has a large number of illit-
erate adults in need of a program which can augment and com-
pletent the local high schoolfs adult education program.

The San Marcos Public Library under the able leadership of
its Director Stephanie Langenkamp definitely deserves the
opportunity to provide the library services which a Title I
Grant can make possible.

OTV/sp

Sincerely,
/¡' / 4- 7~(
¿ g(.,tt/ ex ~ / ¿¿,-
elia T.
