<br />3. <br /> <br />If the excavation is to pass under the curb and gutter or <br /> <br />sidewalk. the curb and gutter or sidewalk shall be removed <br /> <br />to the closest expansion joint or dummy joint. on each side <br /> <br />of the excavation. <br /> <br />The dummy joint will be trimmed to a <br /> <br />neat vertical cut. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />Where pipe is required to be installed under roadway <br /> <br />structures by jacking. boring or tunneling methods, <br /> <br />construction shall be made in such a manner that will not <br /> <br />interfere with vehicular traffic and shall not weaken or <br /> <br />damage the existing street. <br /> <br />During construction <br /> <br />operations, barricades and lights to safeguard traffic and <br /> <br />pedestrians shall be furnished and maintained, as directed <br /> <br />by the Inspector, until such time as the backfill has been <br /> <br />completed and then shall be removed from the site. <br /> <br />The use <br /> <br />of water or other fluids in connection with boring operations <br /> <br />will be permitted only to the extent to lubricate cuttings. <br /> <br />Jetting will not be permitted. <br /> <br />Overcutting in excess of one <br /> <br />inch (1") shall be remedied by pressure grouting the entire <br /> <br />length of the installation. <br /> <br />When tunneling, the space between <br /> <br />the liner plate and the limits of the excavation shall be <br /> <br />pressure grouted or mud-jacked. <br /> <br />The pits or trenches <br /> <br />excavated to facilitate any of these operations shall be <br /> <br />backfilled immediately after the work has been completed. <br /> <br />BACKFILL OPERATIONS <br /> <br />1 . <br /> <br />At least one hour prior to beginning permanent backfill <br /> <br />operations, the person responsible for the work must notify <br /> <br />the Public Works Department at 353-4444, Extension 277, of <br /> <br />the approximate time the backfill of the ditch will begin. <br /> <br />The permit number, location of the street cut, and name of <br /> <br />4 <br />
