If no permit number is available, a permit must be obtained before an inspector will be furnished. No backfill will be considered acceptable unless this call has been received and the Construction Inspector has an opportunity to check the backfill operations. If the Contractor/Utility refuses to remove and replace, under City inspection, this unacceptable backfill, then this work will be accomplished by City personnel and backcharged to the Contractor/Utility responsible for the work. Backfill operations may begin one hour after notifying the Public Works Department, if the Inspector has not arrived. 2. All excess water and mud must be removed from the trench prior to backfilling. Any backfill placed during a rainy period or at other times where excess water cannot be prevented from entering the trench will be considered temporary and must be removed as soon as weather permits. :3 . Once the cut has been made and interim backfill is desired, the fill will be sufficiently compacted and surfaced with a minimum of one-inch cold mix to accommodate traffic on major streets. Major streets shall be defined as one whose width, when measured from face of curb to face of curb, excseds thirty (30) feet. Liability remains as under IILiability for street cuts" above. The cut must be permanently backfilled within two weeks of the date the backfill was accepted. Any Utility/Contractor who fails to comply with this requirement will be charged $50 per cut. 5
