4. Backfill material and/or methods will be as defined in the City of Austin Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction or as directed by the Director of Public Works. If the repairs do not meet these requirements, the Construction Inspector may require the backfill to be removed and replaced. In cases where backfill is unacceptable and the Utility/Contractor refuses to make the backfill acceptable, the work will be accomplished by Public Works forces and backcharged to the Utility/Contractor responsible for the work. PAVEMENT REPAIRS 1 . Flexible Base/Asphalt Surface: Where existing pavement consists of flexible base, with an asphalt wearing surface, the new flexible base placed in the trench shall extend two inches below the bottom of the existing base or must have a minimum depth of ten inches, whichever is greater. Flexible base with proper moisture shall be placed on approved backfill in six inch layers and mechanically tamped to not less than 100% density where tested in accordance with THD test method TEX-113-E. If the cut is not to be paved immediately, the flexible base will be left one inch below the pavement surface on major streets, then finished with compacted cold mix asphalt by the Utility/Contractor. Otherwise, flexible base shall be one- half inch (~n) above existing surface. Clean-up and removal of barricades will be accomplished promptly. (See Attachment No.2) 2.
