<br />4. <br /> <br />Backfill material and/or methods will be as defined in the <br /> <br />City of Austin Standard Specifications for Public Works <br /> <br />Construction or as directed by the Director of Public <br /> <br />Works. <br /> <br />If the repairs do not meet these requirements, the <br /> <br />Construction Inspector may require the backfill to be <br /> <br />removed and replaced. <br /> <br />In cases where backfill is <br /> <br />unacceptable and the Utility/Contractor refuses to make the <br /> <br />backfill acceptable, the work will be accomplished by Public <br /> <br />Works forces and backcharged to the Utility/Contractor <br /> <br />responsible for the work. <br /> <br />PAVEMENT REPAIRS <br /> <br />1 . <br /> <br />Flexible Base/Asphalt Surface: <br /> <br />Where existing pavement <br /> <br />consists of flexible base, with an asphalt wearing surface, <br /> <br />the new flexible base placed in the trench shall extend two <br /> <br />inches below the bottom of the existing base or must have a <br /> <br />minimum depth of ten inches, whichever is greater. <br /> <br />Flexible base with proper moisture shall be placed on <br /> <br />approved backfill in six inch layers and mechanically <br />tamped to not less than 100% density where tested in <br /> <br />accordance with THD test method TEX-113-E. <br /> <br />If the cut is <br /> <br />not to be paved immediately, the flexible base will be left <br /> <br />one inch below the pavement surface on major streets, then <br /> <br />finished with compacted cold mix asphalt by the <br /> <br />Utility/Contractor. <br /> <br />Otherwise, flexible base shall be one- <br /> <br />half inch (~n) above existing surface. <br /> <br />Clean-up and <br /> <br />removal of barricades will be accomplished promptly. <br /> <br />(See <br /> <br />Attachment No.2) <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Concrete Base/Asphalt Surface: <br /> <br />Where existing pavement <br /> <br />consists of concrete, with an asphalt overlay surface, the <br /> <br />6 <br />
