GENERAL AVIATION SAFETY INSPECTION REPORT
SAN MARCOS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS

The following comments and recommendations are provided as a result of the
inspection:

Pavement Condition.

a.

There is scaling taking place on portions of the ramp. Recommend that
these areas be repaired before they completely disintegrate.

Recommend that the first 3,000 feet of Runway 8/26 be reconstructed.
There is extensive patching especially wi thin the touchdown area.

There is extensive turf growth on Runway 17/35. An herbicide needs to be
applied and the resultant cracks sealed with a compatible sealant.

Presently there are no plans to use funds from the current grant to seal
coat Runway 17/35. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you proceed with
the turf removal.

The reconstruction of Runway 12/30 is progressing slowly. With the
completion of this project the pavement strength will increase to
60,000 pound single wheel.

b.

Safety Areas.

Cultivation is within 25 feet of all the runways. At a minimum the runway
and taxiway safety areas need to be clear of any cultivation. However,
the drain system is located 300 feet from the pavement edges; this
establishes this dimension as a basis for limiting agricultural activity
because of poor drainage at the airport. Therefore, recommend that the
lease agreement be modified to reflect this situation.

Enclosed is a sketch of the safety area and its dimension.

Recommend that you review Page 3.4 of the updated Master Plan. This
section discusses future runway utilization. There are considerations for
the use of Runway 04/22 that are contrary to your plans. Please examine
this section carefully. .

c.

Marking and Lighting.

Runway 17/35 does not have a marked centerline. Recommend that one be
painted in accordance with advisory circular guidance.

Recommend that retroflective markers be installed on all taxiways serving
Runway 12/30.
