<br />VI. <br /> <br />PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />POLICY <br /> <br />The work performance of each regular employee shall be <br /> <br />evaluated in accordance with accepted procedures. <br /> <br />The <br /> <br />purpose of the performance appraisal is to: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />coach and counsel the employee regarding job <br />performance, with the focus on how well the job was <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />done and what can be done to do the job better. <br />serve as input for salary increases; and <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />identify employment development needs. <br /> <br />A formal performance appraisal will be conducted on each <br /> <br />employee two (2) times each fiscal year. <br /> <br />The appraisal <br /> <br />process and procedural guidelines are described in the <br /> <br />City of San Marcos Performance Appraisal Guidelines. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />SALARY INCREASE GUIDELINES <br /> <br />Salary increase based on performance will be given to <br />reward and to encourage individual employee performance <br /> <br />(Merit Pay Program is based on yearly Council action.) <br />Salary increases will be given on a percentage of the <br /> <br />employee's actual salary. <br /> <br />Performance appraisals for all <br /> <br />employees will be conducted twice during the fiscal year <br /> <br />at six (6) month intervals. <br /> <br />The performance appraisal <br /> <br />will be conducted during the employee's anniversary month <br /> <br />and six (6) months from that date. <br /> <br />The anniversary month <br /> <br />-32- <br />
