o <br />Support TXST efforts to continue the education of local high school <br />students, such as the Bobcat Promise scholarship program. <br /> <br />Action 4: Seamlessly transition high school students into training, <br />college, and job opportunities in Greater San Marcos. <br />Support the implementation of a Career Academy model in high schools <br />based on target industries. <br />o <br />Enhance current dual-enrollment partnerships between school <br />districts and ACC through Career Academies. <br />o <br />Explore the addition of academy programs in entrepreneurship and <br />target sectors. <br />o <br />Adopt internship programs for high school juniors and seniors in <br />each target business sector. <br /> <br />Strengthen relationships with Gary Job Corps. <br />o <br />Establish a pipeline between Caldwell school districts and Gary <br />Corps similar to San Marcos CISD that allows students to be trained <br />at Gary Job Corps. <br />o <br />Work with Gary Job Corps to <br />promote the training center <br />to Greater San Marcos high <br />schools and further abate <br />high school dropouts. <br />o <br />Work to provide alternative <br />housing for graduates of the <br />Gary Job Corps programs. <br /> <br />Get involved in educational programming that is supported by the Greater <br />Austin Chamber of Commerce. <br />o <br />Participate in and support the Greater Austin Chambers 20,010 by <br />2010 initiative. <br />o <br />Push for the adoption of the Community Education Progress Task <br />Forces 2008 recommendations for San Marcos, specifically those <br />associated with career and college readiness. <br /> <br />Action 5: Promote lifelong learning as the key to economic growth and <br />prosperity. <br />Create and launch a marketing effort to raise community awareness of the <br />value of education, designed to reach everyone from parents to kids already <br />enrolled in school. <br />o <br />Encourage residents to get their GED (General Educational <br />Development) and improve their English skills through ESOL <br />(English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 14 <br /> <br />
