o <br />Communicate local schools success stories with the public through <br />nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, and service groups like <br />Rotary Clubs. <br />o <br />Host forums on local workforce development and educational <br />opportunities for Greater San Marcos adult residents. <br />o <br />Engage Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area in the process of <br />promoting strong community values related to work and <br />responsibility. <br />Address critical skills gap issues, such as work ethic, <br />especially among the regions unskilled workforce. <br /> <br /> <br />No factor is more critical to workforce development than the quality of gr <br />coming from a communitys public school system. Good public sch <br />develop new generations of productive employees, good citizens, <br />entrepreneurs and innovators, and effective leaders in all fields. Having strong <br />public school systems not only improves the quality of the local <br />makes communities more attractive places for families and businesses. Deficiencies <br />in a public school system can hold back the economic development <br />entire community. <br /> <br />Greater San Marcos communities are committed to high quality, a <br />education at all levels. While solid progress has been made in ent years to <br />improve student achievement, perceptions can linger long after s <br />have been made. In addition to supporting programs that promote <br />excellence, it will also be important to actively project a posiimage of Greater San <br />Marcos school districts. <br />Action 1: Ensure that Greater San <br />Marcos school districts have the <br />capacity and programs they need to <br />effectively educatechildren and <br />preparethem for their futures. <br />Support the efforts of the San Marcos <br />Educational Partners/SOAR and <br />Community Action, Inc. <br />o <br />Discuss possibilities for <br />collaborative efforts between the organizations and Pre-K-12 schools <br />to maximize resources. <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 15 <br /> <br />
