Position Greater San Marcos representatives on materials <br />science and advanced manufacturing-related boards and <br />panels at the state level. <br />o <br />Catalog available industrially-zoned land and buildings that meet the <br />needs of employers in this target industry. <br />o <br />Dedicate a portion of the recommended future technology incubator <br />to fostering start-up materials science and nanotechnology-related <br />companies. <br /> <br />Supply Chain Management <br />o <br />Endorse projects that will facilitate the rapid movements of goods <br />through San Marcos and Central Texas. <br />o <br />Support the growth of San Marcos Municipal Airport so that facilities <br />and the Foreign Trade Zone can be fully maximized. <br />o <br />Work with Austin Community College to develop a supply chain <br />management certificate or degree program. <br />o <br />Ensure prime land near the future toll road are prepared and zoned to <br />accommodate business growth within this target. <br /> <br />Corporate and Professional Operations <br />o <br />Identify professional service leakages through the Grow One <br />Program. <br />Survey local companies to determine what professional <br />services are contracted locally, and which are sourced from <br />outside the Greater San Marcos. <br />Connect these companies with existing local professional <br />service providers. <br />Identify gaps in professional services available locally, and <br />inform the Small Business Assistance Center so that they may <br />work with area entrepreneurs to fill those gaps. <br />Also fill gaps by recruiting professional services to the area. <br />o <br />Increase the amount of Class A office space attractive to Corpor <br />and Professional Operations businesses. <br />Create an information packet for prospective developers of <br />Class A office space. The packet should list sites that have <br />been identified for potential development, describe any <br />relevant incentive <br />programs, and <br />provide <br />demographic and <br />economic <br />indicators <br />illustrating <br />demand for <br />quality office <br />space development in Greater San Marcos. <br />Make the packet available online and mail it to commercial <br />developers. <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 32 <br /> <br />
