Action 1: Continue to engage in ongoing master planning for the City of <br />San Marcos, Hays County, and Caldwell County to be functional and <br />handlegrowthinnearandlong-termfuture. <br />Update master plans and development regulations according to schedule. <br />o <br />Update the San Marcos Land Use Master Plan as scheduled in 2010. <br />Ensure that the Plan addresses historic areas, infill <br />development, and ties to the recently-developed Horizons <br />Master Plan. <br />o <br />Update San Marcos Horizons Master Plan as scheduled in 2010. <br />Link to strategies and actions to the plans of Envision Central <br />Texas, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and <br />other regional planning agencies. <br />o <br />Update Hays Countys subdivision and development regulations. <br />o <br />Ensure that strategies <br />targeting Greater San Marcos <br />most competitive business <br />sectors are incorporated into <br />transportation designs, <br />transportation-oriented land <br />uses, and congestion- <br />management project <br />prioritization. <br />o <br />Ensure that planning remains ahead of growth pressures by <br />formalizing land use controls that facilitate best practice developmen <br /> <br />Improve communication about planning initiatives between local a <br />regional governments and development entities. <br />o <br />Share tactics and be inclusive in planning processes across <br />organizations and jurisdictions. <br />o <br />Increase support for regional efforts aimed at improving <br />infrastructure and other areas of joint interest. <br />o <br />Convene community leadership meetings to gauge stakeholders <br />opinions and preferences for the types and intensities of develo <br />along high-capacity new roadways. <br /> <br />Action 2: Provide transportation direction and services and expand <br />transportation alternatives. <br />Evaluate the potential demand for various types of mass transit and public <br />transportation services, including the needs of multiple demogra <br />socioeconomic segments of the community. <br /> <br />Ensure current and future plans address local transportation neefully <br />implemented and regularly updated. <br />o <br />Reduce the degree to which U.S. Interstate 35 disconnects San <br />Marcos through smart design and improved interchanges. <br />Final Strategy <br />September 2009 38 <br /> <br />
