OVERVIEW <br />This Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy contains objectives and tactics that <br />will direct Greater San Marcos economic development activities <br />years. The Partners for Progress have engaged Market Street Services, a community, <br />economic, and workforce development consulting firm based in Atl <br />the planning process. The Partners for Progress includes the Cit <br />Economic Development San Marcos (EDSM), the San Marcos Area Chamber of <br />Commerce, Hays County, Caldwell County, the City of Lockhart, th <br />Prime Outlets, Texas State University-San Marcos (TXST), Central Texas Medical <br />Center, San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD), and Gary Job <br />Corps. Its purpose is to promote sustainable and comprehensive e <br />development in the Greater San Marcos region. <br /> <br />The process of creating an economic development strategy involves months of <br />community input and research which is then crafted into a creative and realistic plan <br />that can affect meaningful, sustainable change. It is a highly interactive process that <br />allows multiple stakeholder groups to voice their opinions and, <br />takes into account previous planning and visioning processes. Market Street Services <br />served as the facilitator in the process of crafting this Strategy. The end result is truly <br />a product of the community, representing the creative thought an <br />residents, businesses, and civic leaders. <br /> <br />The components of the process are outlined below. Additional details <br />planning process can be found at the project website, GreaterSanMarcosPlan.com. <br /> <br />Community Assessment: This report assessed Greater San Marcos trends <br />and conditions in terms of (1) people, (2) prosperity, and (3) pPeople <br />examined the demographic and social characteristics of the commu <br />Prosperity assessed the realities of the economy, in terms of growth <br />opportunities, diversification, and business costs. Place examined factors <br />to assess the communitys quality of life and infrastructure. Additionally, <br />input gathered through interviews, focus groups, and an online s <br />incorporated throughout this deliverable. <br /> <br />Target Business and Workforce Analysis: This document presented an <br />analysis of quantitative and qualitative research in order to de <br />target industry sectors for Greater San Marcos to pursue.
