<br />120 <br /> <br />regular meeting, may 21, 1979 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />Mr. Cavazos moved to employ the firm of Harold Simpson and <br />Company to perform the City audit. Mr. Breihan seconded <br />the motion which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced for consideration a proposal to transfer <br />a portion of Grace Street to the San Marcos Baptist Academy. <br />It was noted that a portion of the Academy Chapel had been <br />constructed on that portion of Grace Street. Mr. Breihan <br />said he was in favor of abandoning the entire street. <br />Mr. Sutton said he did not wish to abandon any more property <br />in the City but that he felt a trade of property would be in <br />order. Mr. Hyatt agreed with Mr. Sutton saying he felt the <br />Council should use the opportunity to obtain an equal portion <br />of right-of-way on Ranch Road 12. Mr. James agreed as did <br />Council Member Tenorio. Dr. Jack Byrom, President of <br />San Marcos Baptist Academy, informed the Council that the <br />Academy was officially requesting that the property on Grace <br />Street be abandoned to the Academy but that an alternative <br />trade would be considered. Mr. Hyatt moved to abandon the <br />10 foot strip on Grace Street on which the Academy Chapel <br />was encroaching. Mr. Cavazos seconded the motion. Mr. James <br />moved to amend the motion to provide for a trade for a like <br />amount of right-of-way on Ranch Road 12. Mr. Sutton seconded <br />the motion to amend. On roll call, the following vote was <br />recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Cavazos, Hansen, James, Sutton <br />Hyatt, Tenorio, Breihan. <br /> <br />On the main motion, as amended, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Hyatt, Hansen, James, Sutton, <br />Cavazos <br />NAY: Tenorio, Breihan. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Secretary read an ordinance having the following <br />caption: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING <br />ORDINANCE 1978-43, ADOPTED BY SAID <br />COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 13, 1978, WHICH <br />ADOPTED THE BUDGET FOR THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR <br />BEGINNING ON OCTOBER 1, 1978, AND ENDING <br />ON SEPTEMBER 30, 1979; AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br /> <br />Mr. James moved the ordinance be adopted on emergency. <br />Mr. Sutton seconded the motion. The City Manager recapped <br />Exhibit A of the ordinance which established the budgetary <br />amendments. On roll call, the motion to adopt the ordinance <br />was unanimous~y approved. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced for consideration disposition of the <br />Old City Hall Building located on Guadalupe Street. <br />Mr., Dunlap reported to the Council that the bid documents <br />had been prepared and were ready for Council approval but <br />that a request had l5een received from Gary Job Corps to I <br />allow use of the Duilding as a corpmember lounge. <br />Mr. Breihan explained that he had received a call late <br />that afternoon from representatives of Gary Job Corps in- <br />forming him that the request had been abandoned unless the <br />City was willing to expend money for repairs to the building. <br />The general concensus of the Council Members was that there <br />were no funds available for such repairs. Council Members <br />also discussed the various options in letting the property <br />for bids including methods for achieving demolition of the <br />annexation building. Mr. Tenorio moved to table further <br />consideration of the item until more staff work could be <br />done. Mr. Cavazos' seconded the motion which passed <br />unanimously. <br />
