<br />3.01 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />3.02 <br /> <br />145a <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE 1976 CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION <br /> <br />Sec. 3.01. Number, selection and term. <br /> <br />The legislative and governing body of the city shall consist of seven (7) <br />council members [changed from "councilmen"] and shall be known as the "City <br />Council of San Marcos." <br /> <br />(a) The members of the city council shall be elected from the city at large, <br />and each council member Ichanged from "councilman"] shall be elected to <br />and occupy a place on the council, such places being numbered 1 through 7 <br />consecutively. <br /> <br />(b) Each council member [changed from "councilman"] shall hold office for a <br />period of three (3) years, staggered so that two (2) and not more than <br />three (3) members be elected to a regular term each year. <br /> <br />Each council member I changed from "councilmen"], [insert as follows] so long. <br />as that'memoer retains the uEllificatibIis 'as set but in section 3.02 below, shElll <br />hold office until ~ changed from "his" successor is elected and ~ualified. <br /> <br />The mayor and each council member [changed from "councilman"] who shall be 'in <br />office . . <br /> <br />Sec. 3.02. Qualifications. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(a) Each member of the city council, in addition to having other ~ualifications <br />prescribed by law: <br /> <br />(1) [paragraphs "1" and "2" are reversed"] Shall be a resident of the cit:L [new <br />requirement] and shall have resided for at least one year preceding the [changel <br />from "his"] election within the corporate limits of San Marcos; or shi;:ll have <br />been a resident for a period of not less than one year immediately preceding <br />~ [changed from "his"] election, . . . <br /> <br />(2) Shall be a ~ualified voter of the city; . <br /> <br />(4) Shall not hold any other office or employment under the city government <br />while [delete "he is"] a member of said council; <br /> <br />(5) Shall not be an officer or director of any public service corporation <br />within the city, or without the city but serving inhabitants of the city, <br />nor [delete "shall he"] be the owner or proprietor of any public service <br />corporation in the city. <br />
