<br />29 <br /> <br />regular meeting, may 9, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager reported to the Council that the application to the Farmers Home <br />Administration for funding for extension of utilities to an industrial site north- <br />east of the City had not been approved due to the inability of the city to provide <br />FHA with a letter of intent from a pro!lpective industry to locate on the propertl" <br />Mr. Baugh said that was no longer the case; that the San Marcos Industrial Foundation <br />currently had pro!,pective industries who were willing to sign letters of intent :If the <br />Council could assure them extension of city services to the area. Mr. Arredondo moved I <br />the City Manager be authorized to resubmit the application to the Farmers Home A,lministrat <br />for funds to extend the utilities. He further moved to state the intent of the Counc~l I <br />to commit Revenue Sharing Entitlement #9 funds for the project shouaadFHA funding not <br />be available and to extend the utilities at the earliest possible date so as to meet <br />time schedule re~uirements of the prospective developers. Mr. Hansen seconded the <br />motion. Mr. Gordon Thompson informed the Council that thetindustries involved had <br />been approached regarding the possibility of payment to the city in lieu of taxes for <br />police and fire services, and that the subject was one to be negotiated at a later date <br />Mr. Baugh told the Council that the City would need to enter into a contract with the <br />businesses when the utility arrangements were made. On roll call, the following vote <br />was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: James, Sutton, Cavazos, Craddock, Arredondo, Hansen <br />NAY: None <br />ABSTAIN: Breihan. <br /> <br />The Mayor read the caption of a Resolution as follows: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS CALLING <br />FOR A PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD AT 5: 30 P.M. ON FIRDAY, MAY 20, 19n IN <br />THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECONSIDERING PROPOSED <br />IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BISHOP STREET PORTION OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT <br />WESTOVER IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock moved the Resolution be amended to change the date of the hearing to <br />Thunsday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m., and to adopt the Resolution, as amended. Mr. Hansen <br />seconded the motion. VMt~oBrethen-mcved~os~end the Resolution to provide for the <br />hearing to also include the proposed extension of Bishop . Street to the interstate <br />Mud for a crossover at that point to connect with Broadway Street. Mr. Arredondo <br />seconded the motion. On roll call, the motion to amend the Resolution to include for <br />the discussion of the extension of Bishop Street passed with the following vote: <br /> <br />AYE: Sutton, Breihan, Arredondo, James <br />NAY: Cavazos, Craddock, Hansen. <br /> <br />On the motion to adoptethe Resolution, as amended, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Breihan, Cavazos, Cnaddock, Arredondo, Hansen, James, Sutton <br />NAY: None. <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock moved to accept a bid submitted by Shellman Construction Company (see <br />bid sheets attached) for the construction of tennis courts at a cost of $45,769. <br />Mr. James seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Mayor announced that the next agenda item, consideration of an ordinance revls~ng <br />the civil service salary schedule, was rescheduled for a later date at the request <br />of the City attorney. <br /> <br />Mayor Arredondo read the caption of an Ordinance as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING <br />SECTION TWO OF THAT ORDINANCE, WHICH PROVIDES FOR A JOB CLASSIFICATION AND <br />SALARY SCHEDULE FOR THE PUBLIC SAFETY DIVISION OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock moved the Ordinance be approved on second reading. Mr. Hansen seconded <br />the motion, which passed with the following vote: <br /> <br />AYE: CraddOCk, Arredondo, Hansen, James, Breihan <br />NAY: Sutton, Cavazos. <br />
