The Mayor also noted that a comnittment had been made to extend <br />utility services to an industrial site currently outside the city limits <br />and explained that request for services had recently been received from others <br />in the sarre area outside the city limits. Representatives of the Maxwell Water <br />Supply Corporation who had also been approached alxJut the provision of water <br />services in the area were present at the meeting. Councilman Breihan, having <br />an interest in one of the subject developnents, at this point in the meeting <br />left his seat at the Council table to participate in the discussion from the <br />audience. The Acting City Manager presented the Council with a IllEm)randum fran <br />Water and ~'1astevater Superintendent George Boeker info:rrni.ng the Council <br />that it might not be possible to provide water service outside the city limits <br />due to problems in the water pressure. Mr. Cavazos stated his primary concern <br />was providing adequate service first to the people owning property inside <br />the city limits. Dr. Craddock agreed and stated she had no objection to <br />servicing property outside the city limits so long as it could be done without <br />creating significant problerns to the current level of service. Engineer Harvey <br />Livesay noted his exceptions-to the Boeker merrorandum and infomed the Council <br />he had previously discussed the matter with then Director of Public Works, <br />william Friedrich who had agreed that Mr. Livesay's proposal for tapping onto <br />the ten-inch waterline currently serving Gary Job Corps \'.lOuld improve service <br />in the area. Dr. Craddock suggested the Council approve the hiring of a <br />taT1[Xlrary engineer as outlined in the previous discussion to study the current <br />question and make a reccmnendation to the City Council so that the policy of <br />not serving property outside the city limits could be reconsidered. Herbert A. <br />Yarbrough, representing the Chamber of CarmErce, carre before the Council to <br />remind than that the Industrial Foundation property must have water before it can <br />be developed by prospective industries. Mr. Sutton agreed and restated the Council's <br />corrrni.ttment to provide utilities to the industrial site by their having approved <br />application for farmer's hone administration grant rronies and/or Revenue Sharing <br />funds.
