I I I I 2: .j PRO C LAM A T ION WHEREAS, the children of San Marcos, Texas, are entitled to the fun and festivity associated with the observance of the Halloween "trick-or-treat" custom, that is, going from door- to-door in their immediate neighborhoods, displaying their costumes, and requesting "treats"; and WHEREAS, the possibil ity of accidents is an ever present threat; and WHEREAS, it would appear that parents generally favor the late afternoon dayl ight hours for Utrick-or-treat" outings, since this period permits greater visibility and tends to limit participation to younger children for whom the observance was originally intended; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Luciano H. Flores, Mayor of San Marcos, do hereby proclaim that Halloween, Tuesday, October 31, 1972, shall also be known as "TRICK-OR-TREATU DAY IN SAN MARCOS, TEXAS I do further ask both ch i I dren..and the i I" parents to cooperate in I imiting the time of "trick-or-treat" activities to the late afternoon dayl ight hours. I also ask that young children be accompanied by parents or other responsible adults. I further request that householders indicate their wi I I ingness to welcome children by keeping their porch or exterior I ights on and that youngsters cal I only at homes so I ighted. Finally, I encourage the cooperation of all citizens, young and old, in making this a happy and safe occasion for children. GIVEN UNDER MY HAND AND SEAL this 24th day of October, 1972.
