<br />r <br />! <br /> <br /> <br />35 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />CREATING THE EXAMINING ANDBUPERVISING BOARD OF ELECTRICIANS AND <br />PRESCRIBING ITS POWERS AND DUTIES: CREATING, THE OFFICE OF ELECTRICAL <br />. INSPECTOR AND PRESCRIBJNG HIS POWERS AND DUTIES: PROVIDING FOR THE <br />LICENSING OF ELECTRICiANS, THE MANNER AND WAY IN WHICH CERTAIN ELECTRI- <br />CAL WORK SHALL BE DONE, THE KIND AND CLASS OF MATERIAtTO BE USED IN <br />SUCH WORK AND THE SCALE OF FEES FOR SUCH INSPECTION: REQUIRING PERMITS <br />FOR CERTAIN KINDS OF ELECTRICAL WORK: REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES, OR <br />PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, AND FIXING A PENALTY <br />OF A FINE OF NOT LESS THAN $1.00 AND NOT MORE THAN $200.00, FOR THE <br />VIOLATION THEREOF; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS': <br /> <br />,DEFINITIONS: <br /> <br />That the term Master Electrician as"u,sed in this ordinance is defined to <br />mean and include'any person engaged in the business of installing or repairing <br />or contracting to install or repair wires, conductors, and equipment used with <br />or on buildings for the transmission of electrical current for electric light, <br />heat, power or Signalling purposes, together with the fittings for same neces- <br />sary for the protection of such wires, conductors, and equipment. <br /> <br />That the term JourneymanEIectrician as used in this ordinance, is defined <br />to mean and include any person who does not contract with the owner of a building <br />(or other person procuring the services of an electrician) but works for and under <br />the direction of a Maste.r Electrician. <br /> <br />That the term Maintenanae Electric License Restricted as used in this ordin- <br />ance is defined to mean and include any person who is J;egularilijl'employed:b:\, one <br />employer upon a permanent basis to do work of an electrical nature, restricted <br />to maintenance, repair, relocation or replacement, of any electrical conductor <br />or equipment pertaining to branch circuits, or similar work within the confines <br />of the building or premises of said employer. <br /> <br />III SECTION 1. EXAMINING AND SUPERVISING BOARD OF ELECTRICIANS. <br /> <br />1.1 That there is hereby created a board for the examination of electri- <br />cians within, the City of San Marcos, Texas, to be known as the Examining and <br />Supervising Board of Electricians. Said Board shall consist of five members; <br />one member shall be the City Electrical Inspector of San Marcos, Texas; one member <br />shall be a qualified representative of the local electrical utilities company; <br />and three members shall be Master Electricians with established business houses <br />in San Marcos, Texas. The members of such Board shall be appointed by the Mayor of <br />the City of San Marcos, Texas,within five days after this ordinance takes effect. <br />The appointment or appointmemts of members of such Board shall not become <br />effective until approved by the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas. <br />Each succeeding Mayor, after he has qualified for such office, shall appoint the <br />members to constitute such Board. The members of such Board shall continue <br />to act as the examining supervising Board of Electricians until their successors <br />have been appointed and such appointments approved by the City Council of San <br />Marcos, Texas. If for any reason a vacancy or vacancies are created in said <br />Board, the Mayor of the City of San Marcos, Texas, shall appoint anew member <br />or members. <br /> <br />1.2 That members of the Examining and Supervising Board of Electricians <br />shall receive no compensation for their services on said Board other than the <br />fees which may be allowed them by the City Council of the City of San Marcos, <br />Texas, for conducting examinations for licenses. <br /> <br />'I <br /> <br />1.3 That said Board shall, after its appointment and approval, fix dates <br />at reasonable times for having applications for examinations for licenses. <br /> <br />1.4 That it shall be the duty of the Board to pass upon all persons engaged <br />in the electrical business as Master Electricians and Journeyman Electricians. <br />Whenever a person shall successfully pass the examination prescribed by the Board, <br />said Board shall notify the City Tax Collector of such fact, and the City Tax <br />Collector shall issue a license to such person so passing the examination and shall <br />record the issuance of such license in a book to be kept by him Or her for such <br />purpose. No license shall be issued to a Master Electrician until he shall have <br />first given bond in the sum of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars conditioned upon <br />the full and faithful compliance with the ordinance of the City of San Marcos, <br />Texas, regulating installation and repair of electrical wiring and apparatus. <br /> <br /> <br />
